Site News: Timelines

Just a very quick note/update as I’m about to rush out the door (off to visit rellos for Christmas).

I’ve turned on the comments feature on the Timelines page so if you want to add anything or debate any items (respectfully of course), please do! Alternatively, you can always drop me an email (listed on the Contacts page).

Obviously what I have on the timelines is just my own speculation and I welcome any point of views that may clear things up further. :) There are a lot of items I haven’t been able to include simply because we haven’t been given an actual time that the event happened (relative to others). When I get back from holidays, I’ll probably set up a ‘things we know have happened but no set time’ page. ;)

Also, a huge thanks to the F*ck Yes, Once Upon A Time tumblr for linking people to the Timelines.

I’ll be mostly internet-less while I’m away the next few days so there won’t be much in the way of updates but feel free to discuss any of the previous posts or the timelines.

Spoiler: Upcoming episode titles released!

Meta: Timelines (Cinderella)

Just rewatched OUAT ep 1.04 “The Price of Gold” and was finally able to pin down a timeline for Cinderella!

Previously, I’d thought that Cinderella got married before Snow White but that Snow White & Charming were at least engaged.

Check out the image below:

It’s small and it’s quick but there’s a wedding band on Charming’s left hand. (It’s easier if you actually watch the ep. I slow-mo’ed through that section and it’s pretty clear.)

BINGO! Snow & Charming were married before Cinderella & Thomas but considering Snow White in that dress at Cinderella’s wedding, I think Cinderella fell pregnant first.

I’ve updated the fairytale timeline to reflect that plus some other info.

Meta: Character names – David Nolan / Prince James

I’d posted most of the following on tumblr about 5 weeks ago but rewatching 1.03 “Snow Falls” tonight made me think about a few things, especially having seen 1.06 “The Shepherd”.

It’s become apparent that most/all of the characters’ names in Storybrooke refers to something about their alter-ego in the fairytale world.

In 1.03 “Snow Falls” it was revealed that John Doe’s real name was actually David Nolan. How does this fit in with Prince Charming (James)?

According to Wiki Name (and other sites) Nolan is an old Irish / Gaelic name meaning “champion”, “noble”, or “proud”, among others.

I think those are fairly appropriate descriptions for a charming prince. :)

I’ll place this next bit behind a cut just in case – there’s a spoiler for 1.06 “The Shepherd”, for those who haven’t seen it yet. (If you haven’t, what are you waiting for?!)

Episode: 1.03 “Snow Falls”

Episode: 1.03 “Snow Falls”

Likes:

  • Snow White and Prince Charming’s first interaction. GOLD!! She’s a thief and then she clocks him with a rock when he captures her, allowing her time to escape. Absolutely better than anything I could have expected! :D
  • The conversation between Charming and Snow while she’s hanging in the net/trap. I LOVE THEM!! In fact, here, have a YouTube clip of that scene. I love her snarky “Good luck with that. You must be getting something impressive to have agreed to that union.”
  • Josh Dallas being ridiculously gorgeous. ALWAYS a like.
  • LOVE the music in this episode. Particularly that rousing theme used when Charming is saving Snow’s life from the Queen’s guards.

Dislikes:

  • Princess Abigail. Obviously meant to be the rival for Charming’s affections but she’s just so… UGH. Spoiled and generally leaves a bad taste (so to speak). I’m hoping we don’t see much of her in the series.

Meta: Character names – Dr Whale

I originally posted this about 5 weeks ago on tumblr. Half of the post is no longer relevant as we know Sheriff Graham’s true identity… but Dr Whale is still something of a mystery.

After watching 1.03 I’m thinking Dr Whale is the Big Bad Wolf. Reasons?

  • His interest in Ruby, while he was on his date with Mary Margaret.
  • His surname.

Ruby = Red Riding Hood. Obviously.

His surname? It’s interesting that one of the theories of evolution has whales evolving from a terrestrial wolf-like creature. I swear to God – I googled ‘whale wolf’ (yes, I am that sad) and you’ll be surprised what pops up. Of course, I’m not sure how current those particular scientific theories are but… *shrugs*

Just sayin’…

Meta: Regina, Henry and Emma… and Mr Gold

Having rewatched episode 1.02, I’ve now been reminded of the part Mr Gold played in Henry’s adoption. Which makes my previous meta post about Regina, Henry and Emma kind of… irrelevant.

So things we know:

  • Henry was born in Phoenix, Arizona.
  • Henry was adopted by Regina when he was 3 weeks old.
  • Mr Gold was the one who found Henry for Regina. (This alludes that Mr Gold knows exactly who Emma and Henry are… and what that means for the curse.)
  • At the end of episode 1.02, Regina realises there’s more than just a coincidence that her adopted son is Emma’s biological son, and that Mr Gold had a hand in it.
  • Also at the end of ep 1.02, Mr Gold tells Regina “you think you know exactly who she (Emma) is”, inferring that Regina remembers everything pre-curse including the part to be played by the child of Snow and Charming.

Mr Gold also appears to remember the backstory with the curse and who he ‘really’ is… so my question is WHAT IS HIS ANGLE?

In the fairytale world, Rumplestiltskin was locked up and obviously not enjoying that. In the real world, Mr Gold has ‘comfort’ (per Rumplestiltskin’s request of the Evil Queen). WHY would he risk that by bringing in a direct link (baby Henry) to the only person who could defeat the Evil Queen (ie Snow and Charming’s child, aka Emma)? Isn’t it in his best interest to keep things as they are in the real world?

I’m curious even moreso because in the first episode (when Snow and Charming go to visit Rumplestiltskin in his cell) he says “The infant is our only hope.” The ‘our’ is the bit that really intrigues me. That and his “Get the child to safety.” The Mr Gold / Rumplestiltskin character really confuses the heck out of me. I simply can’t decide whether he’s good or bad… or does he live to create mischief and mayhem?

One last question… Mr Gold appears to be the kind of person who has a lot of connections and knows a lot more than he needs to (or should know). Emma told Regina in episode 1.01 that Henry’s father doesn’t even know he exists.

Does Mr Gold know who Henry’s biological father is?

Episode: 1.02 “The Thing You Love Most”

Episode: 1.02 “The Thing You Love Most”

(Apologies that this was so wordy – I’d forgotten so much happened in this ep!!)

Likes:

  • Regina bringing Emma a basket of apples = brilliant! I love the parallel with the traditional story of the Evil Queen bringing Snow White a poison apple.
  • Lana Parilla totally rocking the Evil Queen this episode!!
  • The introduction of Maleficent! Out of all the Disney/fairytale baddies, she is one of my faves!
  • The scene where Emma takes a chainsaw to Regina’s beloved apple tree = WIN!!
  • The reveal of the connection between Mr Gold and Regina.

Dislikes:

  • Emma being framed by Regina (stealing Dr Hopper’s files on Henry). REALLY, Mayor? *rolls eyes* Where’s the originality?
  • No Snow and Charming. *pout*
